Horn please We thought it would be a great idea to risk life and limbs on 3 wheels on 2000 miles of Indian roads in sweltering heat. Since it's for charity it must be worth it.
But will we make it?

The holy city of Varanasi
At 18:08 on 03-06-2008 Robyn said...

We made it! Several hundred km down the mountain, flowed across the border to India to arrive at the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi.  We haven't caught any diseases yet, broken any limbs or caused any major accidents.  Three days in we drive like natives - watch out London! - it's easy, right of way is determined by size of the vehicle - either side of the road.  Follow that simple rule and you're fine (we're quite low in the pecking order)!

Of course there have been a few mishaps: Hugo started vomiting in Kathmandu & it was NOTHING to do with his Everest beer; he's attracted the attention of all sorts of insects and is covered in bites but best of all he's now the proud owner of a sultan sword and is king of the pride.... Shilpa has discovered her dangerous driving routes and is not above road rage, sending a truck flying this afternoon - he's learned his lesson & he wont be back!  Robyn broke the cardinal rule of the Horn Please game plan - NO driving at night! - by driving at night (the first night) in the mountains of Nepal, not for the faint-hearted and neither was the wasps nest outside our hotel room door that first night on the road!

Other teams have experienced their first breakdown but we still have that to look forward to.  We had an attempted one today when we over-oiled the engine and invited the Mistry (=mechanic in this state) to please sort it out.  Everyone else in town turned up to watch too - excellent mechanic, the rickshaw was flying afterwards and all for Rs50. Bargain.

More to follow ...!!
