The team consists of
- Marc van den Berg, a dutchman by passport but on this trip representing the courageous and famously lavish Alpine kingom of Switzerland, his home of several years
- Simen Thorbeck, a hardened and ubreakable Norwegian Viking with the only mechanical experience of the team (he owned a green moped when he was 16.)
We’re taking some time out from the white-collar everyday life in banking to participate in this epic challenge, giving those in need a helping hand, and hopefully having the adventure of our lifetime.
We have called our team the Kontiki, inspired by the expedition which Thor Heyerdahl undertook many years ago, crossing the pacific on a vessel made of simple balsa wood. We feel its an appropriate name for an expedition which requires driving an oversized lawnmower from Kathmandu to Puducherry, put-putting across roughly 4500km of testing roads and terrain...

Getting to Crunch Time

Dear All,
It has just started to sink in that we will be flying to Nepal for the start of our adventure in almost exactly two weeks. What hasn't quite sunk in yet is that this is going to be something quite out of the ordinary...
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all those who have contributed (significant!) amounts in donations to our charity initiative. We will continue the initiative to raise until our departure, but in the interim this big THANK YOU is the least we can say.
On another note, I have just been to the store to buy supplies... mosquito nets, water purification tablets, first aid kit, waterproof bags....... Next stop - the MAP shop!
Also, anyone with orders from India let us know - i'm thinking along the lines of little 'must see' detours or challenges......
some fresh tea leaves from Darjeeling, pictures of us cuddling a tiger in Bengal, some indian cooking ingredients to spice up your life?
